About Us
This website and the products on sale celebrate the Australian Magpie, as has no affiliation with any sporting club or body.
Why are Magpies so often Hated? Seen as a bad omen by
many, Magpies are the bird people most love to hate. But why? This is because
they are described as challenging and arrogant. They are one of the most
vilified birds in Australia. Reasons for this include their "cheekiness" and
aggressive territorial nature. They have a challenging, almost arrogant
attitude, that has won them few friends, but Magpies are none-the-less beautiful
striking birds. When it comes to this intelligent black-and-white bird, most
people love to hate them.
Magpie Attacks For most of the year magpies are not
aggressive, but for four to six weeks during nesting there will be an Army of
them defending their territory vigorously. People walking past may be seen as
'invaders' of the territory, prompting the Magpie Army® to fly low and fast over
the person clacking their bills as they pass overhead. Being territorial birds,
up to ten magpies will sometimes group together in a small squads then swarm
down to defend their homes.
